Sträter finds his way to the cabaret stage via detours. After school, he first completed an apprenticeship as a men's tailor and worked in this profession for a few years until he joined a forwarding agency, then sold system houses and at some point worked as a mobile phone salesman. In his spare time, the Dortmund native writes short stories that he performs at poetry slam competitions.

Torsten Sträter's sometimes funny, sometimes thought-provoking stories from everyday life are well received by the audience. In addition to numerous regional poetry slam championships, he won the state competition NRW-Slam in 2012. For a while he also wrote regularly for the satirical magazine Pardon. What even many fans don't know: Torsten Sträter works as a (humorous) columnist for the football magazine Kicker.

The comedian has also been a household name for German television audiences since 2013. That was when Torsten Sträter first appeared on the show Nuhr im Ersten. But since then he has not only been a regular guest on Dieter Nuhr, Sträter has also appeared on Genial daneben and Luke! Die Schule und ich. He also wins the first season of the comedy game show LOL: Last One Laughing, which is produced for Amazon Prime. On the side, the comedian also works as a voice actor for video games and films: In the computer game Fallout 76 he lends his voice to the narrator, in the Pixar film Soul he speaks the role of a hedge fund manager.
